The Importance of Relevant Keywords for SEO

When it comes to Search Engine Optimization (SEO), one of the most important factors for your website is using the right keywords. But what are keywords, and why are they so important?

Simply put, keywords are the words and phrases that people use when they search for information online. If you want your website to show up in those search results, then you need to make sure your website content contains those keywords.

But how do you know which keywords to target? And once you’ve targeted them, how can you make sure your website content includes them in the right places?

The first step is to do some keyword research. This involves identifying which keywords are relevant to your business and then figuring out how often people  search for those keywords.

Once you’ve done your initial keyword research, then it’s time to start writing the content that will appear on your website and blog. This is where it can get a little tricky because you need to include words and phrases that people are actually typing into Google or Bing search bars — but without sounding too salesy.  So you need to find a balance between content that is SEO-friendly by containing the keywords that will show up in search results and good writing that engages your audience.

A couple of best practices to keep in mind:

Use variations of each keyword phrase. If your company sells “cute dresses,” don’t use only “cute” in all of your blog posts — also use words like “fashionable,” “beautiful,” or “gorgeous.” Use long-tail keywords for more specific searches. Instead of using a broad, general phrase like “eCommerce solutions,” try something more specific like “B2C eCommerce solutions for clothing retailers.”

Always be on the lookout for new, relevant keywords while you’re creating blog posts and content. For example, when you’re writing a blog post about the latest men’s fashions, don’t forget to include keywords like “t-shirts,” “jeans,” and “suits.”

If your business is new, then you will most likely need to do some of this keyword research yourself — but that doesn’t mean it has to be time consuming or difficult. Start by brainstorming a list of everything and anything related to your product or service. Then go through each keyword on your list and consider how popular they are (compare them with Google Trends ) and how often people search for them (compare them with the Google Keyword Tool ).
